George Cabrera

George Cabrera is the founder and CEO of Cabrera Consulting Group, a company he created after spending more than two decades in the world of nonprofits, business development and entertainment production.

George brings to the table a wide range of talents and expertise. He’s a financial expert who knows how to manage all aspects of for-profit and nonprofit ventures. He understands the nuts and bolts of day-to-day operations needed to keep any organization running smoothly. Yet he never loses sight of where an organization should be heading — and how to get there.

At his core, George is a people’s person. Anyone who knows George would agree he is gifted with the ability to influence people in a positive way. George has a way of making people feel special, whether they are a high-level executive or an entry-level employee.

These attributes have brought George accolades and attention. The South Florida Business Journal named him one of its “40 under 40” young leaders to watch. El Sentinel (South Florida Sun Sentinel) gave him its “Nuestro Orgullo Hispano” award, which honors community leadership and service. George also was a finalist for the prestigious R.E.A.L. (Real Estate Achievers and Leaders) Award from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

George created his company based on the same principles that have guided his career. He is passionate and enthusiastic, fearless and creative, hardworking and responsible, often giving above and beyond what he’s hired to do. His company focuses on assessing clients’ needs, customizing solutions and putting them into action. Cabrera Consulting Group offers a wide variety of services that cover all aspects of business and nonprofit development.

George drew on his understanding of financing and his innovative thinking to get these projects off the ground. He strategically used the federal New Market Tax Credit Program, a government incentive that encourages investment in underserved communities, to finance the new schools. He was able to obtain an additional $25 million through an industrial development revenue bond that allowed his organization to refinance existing debt and finance capital improvements. As a result, George was invited to testify before a congressional panel studying the use of tax credits to foster economic development in low-income communities.

Before venturing into the non-profit world, George served as Forecasting and Capacity Planning Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Nortel Networks, a global telecommunications giant.

George earned a master’s degree in International Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration from American Intercontinental University in South Florida.

He’s also a member of the City of Miami Education Advisory Board, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Miami Advisory Board, and honorary director of the South Florida Chamber of Commerce, among others.

And he’s an avid fan of Latin jazz and old-school salsa. When George is not poring over budgets and spreadsheets, you can find him on the dance floor or listening to his favorite salsa album.
